Vilau develops the contents and interactive resources for the Barandiaran museum

The project "brings to life" the figure of the renowned Basque anthropologist and scientist José Miguel Barandiaran (1889-1991) in a space that takes a look at his life and his work.

Vilau has been entrusted with the definition and technological integration as well as the execution and production of the audiovisual and interactive digital contents of the recently opened museum. In order to do this, it has opted for an austere yet modern expographic solution, in keeping with the character of the prestigious academic, who has been recognised by the international scientific community.

The project is supported by the Ministry of Culture, the Basque Country Government, the Regional Council of Gipuzkoa, Ataun Town Council and Kutxa.

Vilau has dealt with the museum space, which consists of two floors, from an interactive, experiential perspective, taking Barandiaran's native Ataun as a starting point. A retro-illuminated photographic montage welcomes visitors, who start the route on the top floor with the projection of an audiovisual presentation which narrates the life of Barandiaran in an emotional way. In the next room, one can see the Basque anthropologist's diary, consulting and interacting with a facsimile of the original of this valuable document. The ground floor of the museum houses an area in which the transcendence of Barandiaran's work is communicated and exhibited; divided into two main areas of knowledge: Prehistory and Ethnography.

In the first, visitors can interact on a map that clearly and concisely reflects the contribution of José Miguel Barandiaran to the archaeological and anthropological science of the Basque Country. In the ethnographical space, you can listen to some of the Basque intellectual's thoughts and enjoy a projection about glass in a previously unpublished documentary which Barandiaran himself filmed in 1928 about one of his recurrent subjects, "magical practices", and which shows a pioneering view that was ahead of its times.

Vilau has also set up Interpretation Centres such as the Igartubeiti Basque Farmhouse and the Parketxe de Lizarrusti and it is currently deeply immersed in the definition and execution of the Aizkorri Aratz Natural Park Interpretation Centre in Zegama. It has also developed the analysis and strategic definition of the Convent of the Order of Christ in Portugal, the Tsarevets Mediaeval Site in Bulgaria and the audiovisual contents of the Euskadi pavilion at the Zaragoza 2008 Expo.
