Basque Country, the Expo Zaragoza's 2008 most innovative pavilion

Vilau, Waskman and Zorrozua have been entrust with designing and the contents of the pavilion

Rain is one of the characteristic features of the Basque Country and that was reflected in the Expo Zaragoza pavilion based on the theme: water, renewable energy and sustainable development, the struggle against climatic change. Ten thousand methacrylate bars was hang from the ceiling of the 300 square metre pavilion to represented the "sirimiri" or typical Basque drizzle.

From 14 June, date of the inauguration of the Expo, the public's abundance to the pavilion of Basque Country was massive, and already it had been defined by the majority of his assistants as the most innovative national pavilion of the event.

Three companies had elaborated a spectacular space with a strong visual load.

Waskman had been exclusively responsible for the pavilion design and all the interactive applications to be found in the complex. This company specialises in new communication formats for exhibitions, advertising and marketing.

Vilau, had be entrust with the contents of the Basque Pavilion.

Zorrozua y Asociados, the design consultants, had been ensured that the contents and design blend together, along with the embodiment of the pavilion.

These three companies had ensured that innovation was a fundamental part of the Basque Country pavilion, whose key features were the use of formal and light elements to depict the sea, rivers and rain. Visitors could also to be able to interact with various umbrellas hung from the roof and which house different thematic displays on sustainability.

Another of the interactive features was the graphical display reflecting how many people visit this pavilion and where they was from. This was showned on a hemisphere representing the world and where photographs took by the visitors themselves will appear on the surface.

Basque gastronomy was also be showcased at this international spotlight on water. Typical Basque products could be available for the visitor to discover, taste and buy from the catering area.
